The 76-year-old billionaire Narayana Murthy stated that punctuality “sent an indelible message to youngsters about arriving at work on time.”
Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of the software giant Infosys, firmly believes in the value of time management and setting an example for others. For years, he would arrive at his workplace at 6:20 in the morning and work until 8 or 9 o’clock at night. The 76-year-old Murthy discussed his time spent creating Infosys and how it prevented him from spending enough time with his two children.
Mr. Murthy revealed how he used to get to the Infosys campus every day at 6:20 a.m. Mr. Murthy continued by saying that he continued to do this up till his retirement in 2011.
When Mr. Murthy corrected the interviewer about how he would get to the campus at 7 am, who had used “legendary stories,” the truth was revealed. “6:20 am.”, Mr. Murthy replied. “I used to come into the office at 6:20 am and stay on till 8-9 pm,” he said on Moneycontrol

He acknowledged during the interview that creating Infosys required sacrifice, and that spending time with his two children, Rohan and Akshata, was the most crucial item he had to give up. He attributes the upbringing of his kids to Sudha Murty, his wife of 44 years.
“All their credentials, all their accomplishments, their PhD, their Stanford education, everything is due to her,” said Murthy.
Discussing on how his family was affected by his schedule Mr Murthy said, “I think entrepreneurship is about daring. It’s about courage. It’s about sacrifice. It’s about deferred gratification. So, if you want to create something that doesn’t exist, it requires a lot of hard work, a lot of commitment, it requires a lot of sacrifices.”
He added, “And as I pointed out earlier when you see small victories on the path to great glory, those small victories give you energy, enthusiasm, confidence, happiness, etc. But the real losers in some senses are our children, both Akshata and Rohan.”
In addition, Mr. Murthy said that on days when he arrived home early, he used to take his kids to their favorite place. When I would occasionally arrive home on time and the kids would have finished their homework, we would take them to Mac Fast (in Bengaluru). They were also given their choice of pizza, French fries, or other food.
A multinational information technology firm based in India, Infosys Limited offers business consulting, IT, and outsourced services. The company was founded in 1981 by Mr Murthy and his partners. Last year, it became the fourth Indian company to reach $100 billion in market capitalisation. The business’s headquarters are in Bangalore, however it was formed in Pune. By 2020 revenue estimates, Infosys will be the second-largest Indian IT company, behind Tata Consultancy Services, and the 602nd-largest public company in the world, according to the Forbes Global 2000 ranking.
